Uważam, że jednym z absurdów nadzoru jest nadmierna kontrola dzieci. Mam wrażenie, że współczesny rodzic to osoba, który panicznie boi się o swoje dziecko: czy jest bezpieczne, czy nie zrobi sobie krzywdy, czy poradzi sobie w dorosłym życiu. Zaślepieni tą paniką rodzice nie dostrzegają, że ich dzieci to niezależne osoby, którzy mają prawo do wolności, do swoich tajemnic, do prywatności. W jednym ze swoich felietonów Ilona Łepkowska zauważyła: „czy za dziesięć,dwadzieścia lat dzieci jeszcze będą rozumieć książkę Tajemniczy ogród? Czy będą umiały docenić, jak cudowną przygodą była możliwość zabawy w niedostępnym dla dorosłych ogrodzie? Przycinanie krzaków róż, pielenie grządek i obserwowanie, jak rozwijają się pąki na drzewach? Zabawa, której nikt im nie zorganizował, sam ją sobie wymyślił? Miejsce, które było tylko ich miejscem, ich światem? Boję się, że nie zrozumieją. Nie docenią. Nie wzruszy ich ta historia”. Może lekarstwem dla spanikowanych rodziców jest właśnie książka Tajemniczy ogród.
